Temporary works at Hampden Pond - February 2026

Temporary improvement works will be taking place at Hampden Pond from 2 February to 20 February 2026 as part of an ongoing Parish Council project.

During this period, temporary fencing will be installed and access to one corner of the pond will be restricted for safety while works are carried out. The remainder of the pond area will remain open where possible.

These works form part of the Hampden Pond borehole project, which aims to improve water levels and water quality in the pond. The project involves creating a new water feed from the underground aquifer to help maintain a more consistent water level, particularly during dry periods.

By stabilising water levels, the project will support the establishment of marginal plants, improve overall water quality and strengthen the pond’s long-term resilience. It will also allow the Council to consider future options such as re-stocking fish. The pond may also be assessed separately as a potential water source heat pump for St Mary’s Church.

The Hampden Pond borehole project runs from August 2024 to March 2026 and is fully funded, with minimal environmental impact expected due to the low level of water extraction.
