Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.wendover-pc.gov.uk.

Wendover Parish Council is committed to ensuring that its website and online services are accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We aim to provide a website that is easy to use and accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability, and we continue to review and improve accessibility across the site.

Wendover Parish Council provides the UserWay Website Accessibility Widget, supported by a dedicated accessibility server. This software helps improve the accessibility of the Wendover Parish Council website and supports efforts to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.

The accessibility menu on wendover-pc.gov.uk can be opened by selecting the accessibility icon displayed in the corner of each page. Once selected, please allow a moment for the menu to load fully.

The accessibility widget provides tools to help users customise their browsing experience, including the ability to:

  • adjust contrast levels and font settings

  • zoom in up to 300% without text spilling off the screen

  • navigate most of the website using only a keyboard

  • use speech recognition software to navigate the site

  • use screen readers, including recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver

We have also aimed to make website content as clear and easy to understand as possible.

AbilityNet provides advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Known accessibility issues may include:

  • some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software

  • live video streams may not include captions

  • some pages may not include a “skip to main content” option

  • some images may not have sufficiently descriptive alternative text, or may not be marked as decorative where appropriate

  • some embedded content, such as iFrames, may be missing titles or descriptions

  • some documents or page elements may contain duplicate id attributes

  • some images may contain text that is not fully accessible

  • in some cases, changing device orientation may make content harder to view

  • some users may experience issues when increasing text size, such as overlapping content

  • third-party content that is outside the control of Wendover Parish Council and was not funded by the Council may not meet the same accessibility standards

We are aware of these issues and continue to review and improve accessibility wherever possible.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Wendover Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We aim for our website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standard and regularly review the site to improve accessibility and usability for all users.

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some older PDF and Word documents may not fully meet current accessibility standards. For example, they may not be structured so they are fully accessible to screen reader users.

Where documents are essential to providing our services, we will review and replace or remediate them where reasonably practicable.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDF or other documents published before 23 September 2018 unless they are needed to access a service.

Any new PDF or Word documents we publish will aim to meet current accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not currently plan to add captions to live video streams, as live video is exempt from the accessibility regulations. Where recordings are published after an event, we will consider providing captions or accessible alternatives where appropriate.
