Wendover Cycleway Improvement update from Buckinghamshire Council



Welcome to our latest bulletin provides local residents and businesses with up to date information on the Wendover Cycleways project.

Overview The council has secured £500K from HS2 for sustainable travel improvement. This project aims to:

  • improve connectivity in Wendover and therefore help promote sustainable travel.

  • encourage cycling for shorter journeys in Wendover through developing the cycling network.

This bulletin provides details of the works completed since the start of February and works to be undertaken during the February Half Term.


Works Recently Completed Footway / Cycleway widening between Worlds End Lane and Halton Lane Widening works on the stretch of shared use footway / cycleway between the Worlds End Lane junction and the Halton Lane junction were completed on Saturday 05 February. The new wider shared use footway / cycleway is approximately 3 metres wide allowing pedestrians and cyclists to safely pass one another.


Footway / Cycleway Widening Works - Halton Lane to Castle Park Road On Monday 07 February footway widening works began on the stretch of shared use footway / cycleway between the Halton Lane junction and Worlds End Lane junction. Once completed the new shared use footway / cycleway will be approximately 3 metres wide allowing pedestrians and cyclists to safely pass one another. These works are projected to be completed by Friday 04 March. Road markings, carriageway repairs at the side road junctions and installation of signs will be implemented later in the project.


School Access Works Footway Widening near Wendover Health Centre (subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances that may have an adverse impact on construction activities) From Monday 21 February footway widening works near Wendover Health Centre will be commence. A minor pedestrian diversion route will be in operation. 2 sections of footway repairs along Wharf Road will also be undertaken next week too. These footway repairs, which are located on a popular walking route to the school, have been programmed during February Half Term to minimise disruption to the public. Wharf Road Carriageway Repairs - Road Closure (subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances that may have an adverse impact on construction activities) On Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 February there will be a road closure in operation along part of Wharf Road. The closure will be in operation between the hours of 09:30 - 15:30 each day and located between the Swan Mews junction and west of the Icknield Close junction. These carriageway repairs, which are located close to the local schools, have been programmed during February Half Term to minimise disruption to the public. For properties that are situated within the closure, we expect vehicular access to be maintained for the vast majority of the time, but there may be occasions when we need to restrict this and our site team will liaise with you should this occur. Station Access Works From Tuesday 22 February, contractors will begin cycleway lining works along Lionel Avenue, Dobbins Lane and Coombe Avenue. Stop and go traffic management will be in operation.


Anticipated Construction Working Times

Working times: Footway 08:00 - 16:00 Carriageway: 09:30 - 15:30 There will be some occasions when construction works will be undertaken on Saturdays (08:00 - 16:00) as well as weekdays.
