HS2 Works Update: Footpath and Road Diversions in Wendover and Surrounding Areas

As part of the ongoing development of the High Speed Two (HS2) rail project, several Public Rights of Way (PRoWs) and local roads in Wendover and surrounding areas will remain closed or diverted to ensure public safety and to allow essential construction to continue.

What’s happening?

HS2 is continuing its works across the North Chilterns area, which includes Ellesborough, Nash Lee, Wendover, and The Lee. For the safety of the public and construction crews, footpaths close to or crossing active sites have been temporarily closed. In many cases, diversions are in place.

Closures by Area:

Wendover

• Footpaths closed until 2028 for the Wendover Green Tunnel and Small Dean Lane site construction:

  • WEN/55, WEN/6/2, WEN/11/2, WEN/13A/1, WEN/14/4

• WEN/57/1 is closed at Small Dean Lane.

• Ellesborough Road, Bacombe Lane, and Small Dean Lane are diverted.

  
  

Rocky Lane

• Closed since February 2025 for the underbridge works and realignment. Expected to reopen August 2025.

  
  

Ellesborough & Nash Lee

• SMA/5/1, SMA/5/2, ELL/25/1 and ELL/20/1 closed until mid-2027 for construction of the Nash Lee overbridge and ELL/20 footbridge.

  
  

South of Wendover & The Lee

• Footpaths WEN/36, WEN/38/1, TLE/2/2, WEN/39, WEN/40/1, TLE/6/5, and TLE/5/2 closed until mid-2027.

  
  

  Good news: Bowood Lane overbridge is now open to pedestrians as of April 2025.

  
  

What you need to know:

• Physical notices and diversion signs are posted on-site.

• HS2 aims to minimise disruption, manage environmental impacts, and keep residents informed.

• Closures are expected to remain in place until 2027–2028, depending on the area and structure involved.
