Ivy Volunteers
17 June 2025

Summary of the Role
The Ivy Volunteers are a small team dedicated to protecting Wendover’s trees by controlling invasive ivy growth. Meeting at 10am on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at the Clock Tower, we work mainly around the Witchell area, cutting ivy at the base of trees in accordance with the Tree Safety Report commissioned by the Parish Council.
This helps prevent tree damage caused by the 'sail effect' during strong winds and supports healthy growth by allowing sunlight back in. No wildlife is disturbed, and all work is carried out with care for both trees and public safety.
What We Offer
Volunteering with the Ivy Volunteers is a chance to enjoy time outdoors while making a visible difference in the community. You’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team, helping to safeguard Wendover’s green spaces. We provide all the tools and protective equipment you’ll need, and there’s no pressure - just come when you can. It’s a great way to learn more about local trees, stay active, and give back in a practical, hands-on way.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome anyone who’s willing to help, whether you're a keen gardener, nature lover, or simply looking for a new way to get involved locally. You don’t need any experience - just a bit of enthusiasm and suitable outdoor clothing. Whether you can join us regularly or just pop along once in a while, your support will make a real difference. We especially value early intervention, and your help could allow trees like the recovering elms and blossoming hawthorns to thrive.
How To Apply
If you’d like to come along to a session and see if it’s for you, we’d love to hear from you. Just email Phoebe at estates@wendover-pc.gov.uk to get started or ask any questions. There’s no commitment - just an open invitation to try it out and help keep Wendover green and thriving.
