Did you know that something as simple as your morning coffee can help your garden thrive?

Wendover Parish Council is pleased to be supporting a Recycled Coffee Grounds Scheme, making it easy for residents to pick up free used coffee grounds from local businesses - helping both the environment and your garden at the same time.

What is the scheme?

Local cafés and businesses are collecting their used coffee grounds and offering them to residents in biodegradable pouches. Instead of going to waste, these coffee grounds can be reused in your garden or compost.

It is a simple idea with a big impact - reducing waste, supporting local businesses, and encouraging sustainable habits across Wendover.

How does it work?

Taking part is easy:

  • Look out for the sign in participating shops

  • Pick up a free pouch of used coffee grounds

  • Take them home and use them in your garden or compost

Supplies are available on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to grab yours while you can.

Where can you get coffee grounds?

You can currently collect free coffee grounds from:

  • Bread and Brew

  • Lady Grey Tea Room

  • Whitewaters

  • Tres Corazones

We hope to welcome more local businesses to the scheme in the future.

Why are coffee grounds good for your garden?

Used coffee grounds are packed with nutrients that plants love, including nitrogen, calcium and potassium. They can help improve soil quality, support plant growth, and even attract worms - which are great for maintaining healthy soil.

They may also help deter common garden pests like slugs and snails, making them a natural and eco-friendly addition to your gardening routine.

Better for the environment

Across the world, millions of tonnes of coffee grounds are thrown away each year. By reusing them locally, we can reduce waste going to landfill and make better use of a valuable natural resource.

This scheme is part of Wendover Parish Council’s wider commitment to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact, following the declaration of a climate emergency in 2021.

A small action that makes a big difference

Whether you are an experienced gardener or just getting started, using coffee grounds is an easy way to make a positive impact. By taking part, you are helping to reduce waste, support local businesses, and contribute to a greener Wendover.

Important safety information

Please remember to keep coffee grounds away from pets. Coffee grounds contain caffeine, which can be harmful to cats and dogs if eaten.

Get involved

Next time you are in Wendover, look out for participating shops and pick up your free pouch of coffee grounds. It is a simple step towards a more sustainable community - and a healthier garden.
