Way Ahead for Wendover!
The new Wendover Parish Council has now had its third meeting and progress is clear for all to see. The meetings are constructive, discussion is lively and teamwork is apparent.
Sue Toft-Hunt, the new Chairman, said, "I'm honoured to have the position of Chairman and will try to live up the expectations of Wendover. We have a strong, multi-talented team of councillors and staff. I am especially pleased to have Cllr Steven Worth as Vice-Chairman. He has also taken on the role of Training Co-ordinator. Training is a priority identified in our action plan, an outcome of the Way Ahead Project.
This project is designed to refresh and modernise procedures and practices of the council and we are well along that road. I am feeling very positive about the future."
Joanna Swift, Monitoring officer for AVDC commented, "The Way Ahead Project is commendably concise and is supported by a very comprehensive action plan. This action plan should take Wendover Parish Council a long way towards complying with the criteria for Quality Council Status."
If you wish to read about the Way Ahead Project, there is a copy in The Clock Tower, or on line at: http://www.wendover-pc.gov.uk/wayahead.
Our Mission Statement helps to concentrate our thoughts on the job in hand. "Wendover Parish Council will represent the community of Wendover by providing leadership and opportunities, enabling Wendover to be a vibrant and inspirational place in which to live, work or visit".
Many of you will know that Ian Gosling has semi-retired and we would like to introduce our new groundsman, Andrew Dunn. Andrew is already working hard with the team and has dealt with the graffiti on the skate park.
The Parish Council, in conjunction with the Chamber of Trade and Commerce are attempting to come up with a scheme to light the High Street for Christmas, whilst avoiding the pitfalls of the Health and Safety Executive. Discussions are also ongoing on the feasibility of putting CCTV in the High Street.
District and County Councillors are also liaising with the Parish Council on the perennial car parking problems. We are told that there will be a parking survey in Wendover during January 2009. Hopefully, this will help solve some of the problems of thoughtless and illegal parking. Secondly, it is hoped to form a Police Liaison Group in order to provide a conduit for concerns with our area.
Wendover Parish Council still has three vacancies on the council. If you are interested in applying, please call into the Clock Tower, for further information. You might enjoy the challenge of working with this new, vibrant and exciting team.
Look out for the Parish Council competition !!
