Rights of Way Improvement Plan

BCC are preparing a new public ‘Rights of Way Improvement Plan’ (ROWIP). This plan aims to make sure the rights of way network in the county meets public needs, now and in the future. It will outline the actions they will take over the next 10 years.

A public right of way is part of the highway and subject to the same legal protection as all other highways. BCC are responsible for over 3,359 kilometres (2087 miles) of public footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways. These form a network for enjoying and exploring the countryside and travelling to work or school. The network also supports good health and tourism.
